The “everything is cake” meme started on July 8, 2020, when BuzzFeed’s Tasty posted a compilation captioned “These Are All Cakes,” showing everyday objects like toilet paper, Crocs and plants being sliced open to reveal cake. People quickly began asking “is it cake?” about everything around them. In fall 2024 AI video apps added cake effects, which let anyone turn a photo of an object into cake on camera.
