AI action figure of yourself: the blister-pack photo from one selfie

Turn one photo into a boxed toy version of you: where the trend came from, which outfit gives the best accessories, and how to post it on LinkedIn.

Quick answer

Open Action Figure AI, add one waist-up photo of yourself in a telling outfit and press make. You get two images of you as a collectible toy: glossy plastic skin, jointed limbs, sealed in a clear blister pack on a toy shelf with two small accessories that match your clothes. It costs 4 credits, and a new account’s first photo trend is free.

The boxed-figure craze started in early April 2025, shortly after ChatGPT added its new image generator. People asked it to turn their photo into a doll in retail packaging, and the posts spread from LinkedIn, of all places, to Instagram, TikTok and X. Brands joined in, and so did the critics: illustrators answered with hand-drawn “starter packs” under #StarterPackNoAI.

A second wave came that September, when Gemini’s new image model made desk figurines on a clear acrylic stand the thing to post. The joke underneath both is the same, and it hasn’t worn out: you, mass-produced, with the props that sum up your life.

What ends up in the box

  • You, as a figure: shiny plastic skin and visible joints at the shoulders, elbows and knees.
  • A sealed blister pack, the clear bubble over a card backing, on a toy shelf.
  • Two little accessories beside you, chosen from what you’re wearing in the photo.
  • Nothing printed on the card: no name, no logo, no slogan.

The blank card is on purpose. Text that an image model writes tends to come out garbled, and a made-up toy brand next to your face is a liability. Your caption carries the words instead, which is also where people read them.

Dress for the figure you want

Because the props come from your clothes, the outfit is the whole brief. Something that says one thing loudly gives the figure an identity; a plain T-shirt gives you a generic toy.

Clear

Scrubs, a chef’s whites, a cycling kit, a suit with a lanyard, a hi-vis vest.

The job reads before anyone sees the caption

Vague

A grey hoodie, a cropped headshot, a coat covering everything.

The accessories have nothing to go on

Use a recent, sharp photo with your face straight on and nothing blocking it. Sunglasses and big hats are what make a figure look like a stranger.

Step by step

  1. 1Open the Action Figure AI page and add one photo of just you, face sharp and at least waist up, in the clothes the figure should wear. The two accessories in the box are picked to match them.
  2. 2Keep square, the default, for LinkedIn and Instagram, or choose portrait or vertical.
  3. 3The button shows the cost before anything runs: 4 credits for two images. On a new account the first photo trend is free, with a small watermark until your first purchase.
  4. 4Press make. If the run fails, the credits are returned.
  5. 5Download both images from Assets, keep the one that looks most like you, and put your name or job title in the caption, because the box itself is blank.

Posting it on LinkedIn and Instagram

Square, the default, shows uncropped in both feeds. On LinkedIn it works best with a reason attached: a new role, a work anniversary, a team launch. One line of context and one line of joke (“Now shipping with laptop and lanyard”) is plenty.

  • Post both images as a two-slide carousel if you can’t pick.
  • For a team version, have everyone make their own figure and post them in one carousel, like a collector’s set.
  • Want your name on the box anyway? Add it on the card area with Instagram’s text tool or any photo editor, where you control the spelling.
  • Say it was made with AI. Some platforms ask for that, and people are kinder about it when you do.

Doing it in ChatGPT or Gemini instead

Both can make the image if you write the prompt yourself, and both let you ask for a name and slogan on the box. Expect a few rounds: the face tends to drift further from yours with each edit. Our action figure prompt guide has a prompt for each, and what to change when the result looks like someone else.

Common problems

  • The figure doesn’t look like me

Swap in a sharper, front-facing photo without sunglasses or a hat, taken in daylight. Then try the other of the two images; one is usually closer.

  • The accessories make no sense

Your outfit didn’t say much. Retake the photo in clothes tied to one job or hobby, with the whole top half in frame.

  • The figure is cut off at the chest

The photo was a tight headshot. Step back so your torso and arms are in shot.

  • I want my name printed on the card

The card stays blank here. Add the text afterwards in a photo editor, or put it in the caption.

FAQ

Is the AI action figure free?

On Action Figure AI, yes, the first time: every new account gets one photo trend free, no card needed, and this is one. It carries a small watermark until your first purchase. After that it’s 4 credits for two images.

When did the action figure trend start?

In early April 2025, shortly after ChatGPT added its new image generator. It started on LinkedIn, then spread to Instagram, TikTok and X.

Can I put my name on the box?

Not in this template: the card is left blank so no garbled text or fake brand ends up in the picture. Add your name in an editor or the caption.

Can two people share one box?

No, it’s one person per photo. Make one figure each and post them together as a set.

What’s the difference from the Gemini figurine?

The Gemini wave in September 2025 put a figurine on a desk with a clear stand. This one is the original idea: you in a sealed blister pack on a shop shelf.
